A globally recognised qualification for investment professionals
The CFA® Program is a globally recognised professional qualification focused on investment analysis, portfolio management, financial knowledge and ethical standards.
The programme develops knowledge and skills that are relevant to investment and finance professionals across global markets. Candidates progress through three examination levels: Level I, Level II and Level III, with each level building on the knowledge and skills developed at the previous stage.
The programme also places strong emphasis on ethics and professional standards, which are central to the CFA Institute curriculum and the investment profession.

How do you become a CFA® Charterholder?
Three levels. One clear path.
The CFA journey consists of three examination levels.
- L ILevel I
Build the Foundation
Develop foundational knowledge across investment and finance.

Apply the Knowledge
Develop deeper analytical and valuation skills and apply them to more complex investment situations.

Develop advanced knowledge in portfolio management and wealth planning.
4,000hours of qualifying work experience
36months minimum
To become a CFA Charterholder, candidates must successfully complete all three levels of the CFA Program, complete the required qualifying work experience and become a member of CFA Institute.
CFA Institute currently requires at least 4,000 hours of qualifying professional work experience accumulated over a minimum of 36 months for Charterholder membership. Qualifying experience must be directly involved in the investment decision-making process or produce work that informs or adds value to that process. This experience can be gained before, during or after completing the CFA Program.
CFA® Programme Entry Requirements
Check if you qualify for Level I
To enrol in the CFA Program and register for the Level I examination, candidates must meet the CFA Institute's eligibility requirements. You can generally qualify through one of the following routes:
Route 1
Bachelor's Degree
You have completed a bachelor's degree or an equivalent university degree.
Route 2
Current Undergraduate Student
You are currently completing an undergraduate degree and will be within 23 months of your graduation month when you sit for the Level I examination.
For progression to Level II, undergraduate candidates must be within 11 months of their graduation month at the time of the Level II examination.
Route 3
Professional Work Experience and Higher Education
You have a combination of 4,000 hours of professional work experience and/or higher education, acquired over a minimum of three sequential years before registering for the Level I examination.
